For those who do have a personal interest in these developments on the case, details on their existence and relevance was first published in the foundational reference work on the Whitechapel murders in 2006, Jack the Ripper: Scotland Yard …

Secret Files on Jack the Ripper?

Wed May 18, 2011 3:36 pm by auspirograph

Breaking News?

Hi all,

Yes, this is a breaking story on Jack the Ripper historical sources but it has been an on-going saga for some time with the UK Information Tribunal. The story is a bit more involved than the press are reporting, or as Trevor Marriott is describing. There are certainly some details of a Victorian Special Branch investigation of Jack the Ripper, however, because suspects …

Jack the Ripper and His Victims (self-published)

Post  Joe Chetcuti on Sun Dec 27, 2009 5:02 pm

I've just read Neal Shelden's book on the victims of Jack the Ripper. It was set up so that myself and two other Whitechapel researchers each received a copy of the book directly from Neal.

While reading the book, you can't help but notice the respect and care that the author had for the descendants of the Ripper victims. The Ripper World couldn't have had a better representative to meet with these descendants. Neal is an experienced writer who cares about the people he researches into.

Jack the Ripper: Scotland Yard Investigates

Post  Admin on Sat Jan 02, 2010 6:51 am

Jack the Ripper: Scotland Yard Investigates
by
Stewart P. Evans & Donald Rumbelow

Drawing on their unparalleled knowledge of the Jack the Ripper murders and their professional experience as police officers, the two doyens of serious Ripper writing
join forces for the first time to write the definitive book on the case from the perspective of the police investigation. As the title declares, this is the complete investigation and is full of new insights and information on the murders and who might have committed them. The authors re-open every aspect of the case and offer a balanced account that does not favour any one suspect or motive.

By viewing the case through the lens of police procedure, they have uncovered clues and links that have remained undetected for over a hundred years. Evans and Rumbelow also extend the investigation beyond the 'canonical' five victims and add other murders investigated at the same time that bring the total to twelve. "Jack the Ripper: Scotland Yard Investigates" strips away much of the nonsense that has accumulated since 1888 and draws the reader into the world of police investigation in Victorian London, reopening files on a case that will perhaps never be solved, but will always fascinate.

London's Shadows

Post  Admin on Mon Sep 13, 2010 9:06 am

London's Shadows: The Dark Side of the Victorian City
by
Drew D. Gray

This is a compelling account of the hidden world of Victorian London. In 1888, London was the capital of the most powerful empire the world had ever known, and the largest city in Europe. In the west a new city was growing, populated by the middle classes, the epitome of 'Victorian values'. Across the city, the situation was very different. The East End of London had long been considered a nether world, a dark and dangerous region outside the symbolic 'walls' of the original City. Using the Whitechapel murders of Jack the Ripper as a focal point, this book explores prostitution and pornography, poverty, revolutionary politics, immigration, the creation of a criminal underclass and the development of policing. It also considers how the sensationalist 'new journalism' took the news of the Ripper murders to all corners of the Empire and to the United States. This is the dark underbelly of London's Victorian history.

Dr Drew D. Gray is a lecturer at the University of Northampton. His research centres on the social history of London in the long eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Jack the Ripper and Black Magic

Post  Admin on Fri Mar 04, 2011 5:21 pm

Jack the Ripper and Black Magic: Victorian Conspiracy Theories, Secret Societies and the Supernatural Mystique of the Whitechapel Murders

by Spiro Dimolianis

Foreword by Stewart P. Evans

Jack the Ripper is a legendary gothic tale of Victorian conspiracies, the supernatural, secret societies and the police. Scotland Yard hunted a serial killer shrouded in politics as the mutilator of East End prostitutes infused pop culture with demonic horror. As the Whitechapel murders of 1888 ceased an authorised mythology had developed that now forms the basis of criminal case studies. But how did these period stories begin and why have they emerged? This book examines historic sources and rare official reports following the evidence through mystery and the mists of time for some credible answers.

After reading that sample above, you feel like you're in the room with all these old-time policemen. †

I'm at Joe's house right now and I'm looking over some of the book. †We're trying to sort out the fiction from the nonfiction. The judo maneuvers and the Whitechapel Murders news stories are authentic as can be.

The Ripper's Hellbroth

by

Michael Hawley

Western New York is under-siege from a serial killer who seems to be following in the footsteps of the most famous fiend of them all - Jack the Ripper.

The Niagara Falls Serial Killer Task Force calls in none other than the Watchmaker, a detective sleuth par excellence.

The Watchmaker, FBIís chief scientist Dr. Edward Dunham knew at once there was something strange about this killer. When he discovers the fiend's immortal agenda, giving the case its first break in what seemed to be an unsolvable situation, he blows the case wide open with a prediction of where the killer will strike next.

They begin their deadly cat and mouse game, then one of the killerís intended victims, a college sophomore, and her younger brother bestow a gift on the Watchmaker, although, when he locks horns with the killer, Dunham's not prepared for the outcome.

All is not lost. The Watchmaker knows his secret, a secret that will haunt him for the rest of his life.

Mike just might make The Ripper's Hellbroth "required reading" for his high school's earth science class!

It's nice to see a newspaper cover the work of one of their local citizens. Congratulations Mike.
